Experiencing Allergies? Try Acupuncture!

Traditional Chinese Medicine, which includes acupuncture and Chinese herbs, can help to treat anything from runny noses, to puffy eyes and other allergy symptoms. A medical professional and acupuncturist named Thomas Burgoon MD from the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) suggested that if you have chronic allergies, you may notice improvement after just one acupuncture treatment.

If you are looking for natural relief that you can use to treat severe allergies, or simply a way to get you through the next allergy season when antihistamines don’t work, try acupuncture! It’s been used for thousands of years by millions of people treating a wide range of ailments including, but not limited to, allergies.

So what causes the worst symptoms of allergies and what can acupuncture do?

Allergic rhinitis is one of the first allergy symptoms that many of us start to experience. This condition is also known as an inflammation of the mucous membranes. This inflammation often causes the unbearable runny noses, excessive sneezing and irritated eyes that can occur throughout the entire allergy season. For some people with severe and chronic allergies the only way to address these symptoms is to receive an allergy shot each year.

Over-the-counter allergy medications can have an effect but they require regular doses. Allergy medications and injections can also come with a number of side effects throughout the year. The nice thing about acupuncture is that it comes with only positive effects and this can help patients to alleviate their allergy symptoms while improving their quality of life.

The negative effects associated with allergy medications:

The main problem with allergy medication(s) is that they often come with some typical side effects which can be problematic for the average allergy sufferer. Some allergy medications that are designed for severe allergies mean that someone generally has to feel a little bit groggy, lethargic and potentially feverish to improve their symptoms. Feeling the negative effects of allergy medication can really take a toll on many people as well as ruin their focus.

Another common problem that occurs with allergy medication is that the body can build up an immunity to various types of allergy medication and this means that the average allergy sufferer may have to switch their medication regularly to see results. Switching medication regularly can not only grow more expensive but lead to further side effects.

Scientific evidence:

There was a study conducted in 2008 across several different European cities that utilized natural treatments for allergy sufferers. Using remedies like herbs, Butterbur and acupuncture, results suggested that many of these natural remedies are extremely effective at curbing allergy symptoms; acupuncture was found to be the most effective.

Patients who suffered from allergic rhinitis experienced routine acupuncture care. All of the patients that received 15 acupuncture treatments experienced clinically relevant results. As well as producing an improvement with the reduction of allergy symptoms, acupuncture actually worked to generate persistent results even after treatment sessions.

The overall quality of life among each of the patients surveyed after their acupuncture through six months of treatments were much higher than other groups involved in the study.

NAET allergy elimination:

Knowing these scientific findings we can find future evidence in a treatment style called NAET. This specialty technique was created by a medical doctor, chiropractor and acupuncturist named Devi S. Nambudripad.

This gifted acupuncturist believed that the body worked to eliminate allergy symptoms completely. This line of thinking came directly out of a need for this type of treatment as she was going to chiropractic school and suffered from numerous allergies to food. By administering regular acupuncture treatments while she was directly in contact with an allergen she was able to overcome some of her health restrictions and some of the symptoms of her allergies.

NAET therapy is now used widely and this form of acupuncture can help with the treatment of environmental allergies, eczema, pet allergies, anxiety disorders, food allergies and more. Through regular treatment from a young age, an individual can completely overcome some of their allergies and experience greatly reduced symptoms far into adulthood.
